Fear of failures is a common reaction to new beginnings that blocks our personal and professional growth. For example, we may be terrified of new responsibilities so that we never think of a promotion. Or we may not explore new technologies/frameworks because of a possibility of not succeeding.

Luckily, there are simple ways of overcoming the fear that helped me and I hope will be useful for others.

Figure out the real consequences of a failure

Sometimes we tend to overestimate the outcomes of a possible misfortune. Once we dig deeper, the fear goes away.

Don’t bind your self-esteem to the outside opinion

Our self-esteem should depend solely on our own viewpoint about our achievements and definitely not on outside opinions.

On the other hand, those remarks should be still treated as valuable feedback. Ultimately, failures and its’ analysis is a step towards our success.

Figure out principles and goals of your life

The one who has a why to live can bear almost any how

Understanding our life goals would simply make the fear insignificant.

Conclusion

Following directions I outlined above has transformed my own fear of failures into a plain emotional inconvenience which is much easier to cope with.

I hope these ideas will help you too, good luck! :)
